Traveling overseas nowadays is so affordable and most of the time even cheaper than traveling locally.
That is why I decided to get Naima a passport as early as now, she is 3 months old.
Now the requirements for babies born legitimate (to married parents) and illegitimate (parents who are not married) are very different. Quite frankly, the requirements for the latter are easier to get.
PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR CHILDREN BORN ILLEGITIMATELY (PARENTS WHO ARE NOT MARRIED)
HOW I GOT MY REQUIREMENTS:
PASSPORT OF THE MOTHER/COMPANION AND any valid Picture IDs tip: Bring at least 2 Government and 1 Non-Government to be sure (If the child is illegitimate, the Mother’s identification are the only one that will be accredited)
CERTIFIED TRUE COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE AUTHENTICATED BY PSA (former NSO) OR PSA BIRTH CERTIFICATE -- ; if it is blurry or there are missing information, have it transcribed by the Local Civil Registry office of the Municipality where your child was born.
Personal Appearance of Mother and Child (no need for a confirmed appointment online if your child is 1 year old and below)
Duly accomplished application form (you can download it here or you can get one for free at the DFA office)
Passport Fee (P 1200.00)
A. Since I am not sure whether the PSA certificate is already ready for release, I went to San Juan City Hall and got Naima’s CTC from the Local Civil Registry office.
I am so amazed by how fast and efficient San Juan City Hall’s Local Civil Registry works. Took us a total of 10 minutes to get it-- on a Wednesday :)
STEP 1: Present the Live Birth Certificate your hospital provided you
STEP 2: The office will ask you how many copies you need, in my case I asked for 2. I paid 100.00 in total (50 pesos each)

STEP 3: Proceed to the cashier and pay
STEP 4: Go back to the LCR office, present the receipt and get your Local Civil Registry copy. The Certified Copy will have a dry seal like the photo below

STEP 5: They will give you a transmittal sheet (see below) with the document number in it. You will present this to PSA when you get your birth cert authenticated

After getting the LCR copy, you need to have it authenticated at any PSA office. I looked up online and the closest to where I live is the one in Makati City Hall OLD BUILDING. Please note that you can have your birth certificate authenticated at ANY BRANCH of PSA.
B. Have your CTC authenticated by PSA
So I went to Makati City Hall at 9:00 am and I got what I went there for at 9:40 am, relatively fast if you ask me.
STEP 1: So I went in and filed an application. The lady told me that the one signing the authentication is at the office so it will be fast.
STEP 2: Pay the fees. I believe I paid a total of 140 pesos for 1 copy. The receipt will show you what time you should come back and get the document. So I waited for 40 minutes.

STEP 3: Get the document once the last name of the applicant is called. I wasn’t able to get the authenticated copy because the actual Birth Certificate on SECPA paper (the yellow one) is already AVAILABLE!! So they gave me that instead which is better!
DAY AT THE DFA ASEANA OFFICE
I chose the ASEANA office because it was big and it can accommodate a lot of people which means it will be faster than the satellite offices. True enough, we only spent 30 minutes there.
You don’t need a confirmed appointment if your child is 1 year old and below. There’s a courtesy/fast lane for : PWD/PREGNANT WOMEN, SENIOR CITIZENS, CHILDREN BELOW 7 YEARS OLD, GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. You will need a confirmed appointment except if you're applying for a child 1 year old and below.
Fill up the application form, you can get one for free at the desk. When you’re done, give it back to the officer at the desk and they will give you your number.
We went inside and waited for our number to be called. There are a total of 4 lanes also inside the courtesy lane office. Thankfully, only a few babies were there that day and the two people before us did not have the complete requirements.
The first step will be checking of the requirements. I gave the original copy of Naima’s birth certificate, a photocopy of my passport, and I showed them my actual passport. The gentleman in the booth approved our requirements and instructed us to pay the fees at the cashier’s office
We proceeded to the cashier’s office and paid 1200.00. They process the courtesy lane users as express so instead of paying 950.00 which will take 20 working days, we paid 1200.00 for express and we will be able to get the passport after 10 working days. We went there on August 31 and we can get the passport on September 12! :)
We went back in to the courtesy lane office and proceeded to the photo taking section. Wait for your number to be called.
Babies who cannot support themselves yet will be given a box (literally a box) where they can sit. I am so thankful that my baby loves selfies so getting her photo taken took about 40 seconds. ( I put my camera on selfie mode, put it beside the DSLR, and Kuya captured the photo)
Check all the details in the passport. The person in charge will also have you check if all information are correct.
DONE!
TIPS:
1. BRING A PEN. I mean don't all Moms know this anyway ;)
2. Your child's dress should be presentable enough for a photo. Which means, no pyjamas, no sandos, and no house clothes. This was not in their website however, there's no harm in dressing your child up properly just so we won't waste time.
3. The Birth Certificate released by the hospital WONT BE ENOUGH. You need the actual PSA birth certificate OR Certified True Copy of Birth Certificate from the Local Civil Registry office/City Hall which has to be AUTHENTICATED by PSA
We will go back on the 12th to get the passport and hopefully it will be as breezy as the application process.
